Where the Wild Things Are - My Visit To the Homosassa State Park
June 01, 2010
This past weekend we visited the Homosassa State Park hoping to swim with the manatees. Unfortunately there are only certain times and conditions under which you can swim with them. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience anyway. Despite the 90 plus degree heat and 110% humidity, we were really comfortable because of the tree cover throughout the park:
I saw a lot of animals up close and got a lot of photos. I will post a few here and the rest on my sidebar soon.
I can't wait to visit this park again. It was so easy to see the animals who seemed very well cared for, was very clean, well maintained, and had an above average gift shop. The shop had lots of BIG and small sun catchers which I can't have too many of:
I love animals and I'm like a kid very excited to visit a zoo....and I love that sun catcher. I'm glad to hear that you had a nice time even with the very scorching weather.

It's always a challenge to stay cool here from May to November!

It really is a nice, clean zoo. I have seen some that are not and would never write a post about them never mind recommend them.

I've seen the manatees at the power station in Palm Beach. They are amazing to watch. It's a shame about the boating accidents.
Take care :)

What a great zoo!
Aren't the manatees weird looking? Such gigantic creatures, kinda walrusy. I didn't know one could swim with them. Better that than with the alligators, I guess! LOL
Gail and I just went to the Carolina Raptor Center last week to see a large collection of birds of prey. It was wonderful.

I like the hippo too. Isn't unusual to see one of those. Too bad you couldn't swim with the manatees. That does look like a really pretty place. Glad you took some pictures.
Have a great week end.
